Power in the Name of Jesus

Floyd's dad, Floyd Sr., was a Godly man.  He was a man who loved God with all his heart and walked in God's ways.  I have many precious memories of this dear man, but one in particular I've been thinking about recently.  For as long as I knew him, he would often be walking around speaking quietly "Jesus, Jesus.  Thank you, Jesus."  It was so much a part of him to be doing that.

Recently I was walking through the house, doing some chores, when I realized I was doing the same thing my father-in-law used to do.  I was quietly saying "Jesus, Jesus.  Thank you, Jesus."  I wasn't even aware of doing it.  I guess I was mentored by Dad's example through the years.

It was suddenly so noticeable that I sat down to think about it.

I pondered how there is a power that comes as we speak the name of Jesus!  It releases His strength and grace into whatever we are doing.  And it wonderfully keeps our focus on Him as we speak His name.  It's a statement of worship.

How lovely is the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.  He is worthy of our speaking forth His name continually.

"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."  Acts 4:12

"Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."  John 14:13

"Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.' "  Matthew 28:18

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe."  Proverbs 18:10

"I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."  John 10:11

I was recently reading a novel about a woman who loved to go to church and offer up her prayers to the Lord.  The final sentence in the book says "Sometimes prayers take a long time to be answered."  And the book concludes with an answered prayer.  Some of the prayers we are praying may take time to be answered, but our wonderful Jesus is listening and working on our behalf!  We can keep speaking forth His name.
